Academy of READING® selected as a CODiE Awards Finalist
Recognition by the Software & Information Industry Association for achievement and vision
Feb. 13, 2006
Ottawa, Ontario – February 13, 2006 – AutoSkill® International Inc. today announced that its flagship product, Academy of READING®, has been selected as a finalist in the Software & Information Industry Association's 21st Annual CODiE Awards program. The CODiE Awards celebrate achievement and vision in software, education technology and digital content.
"The 21st Annual CODiE Awards continue the tradition of honoring the best of the software, information and education technology industries," said Ken Wasch, SIIA President. "When one considers the number of outstanding companies that competed this year, being named a CODiE Awards Finalist is a significant achievement."
The first round of judges who selected the Finalists included representatives from the software and information industry trade press, mainstream technology writers, analysts, consultants and subject-matter experts.
The Academy of READING was selected from many high caliber products in the educational category of Best Instructional Solution: English Language Acquisition. This category recognizes products specifically designed to benefit students with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) or students studying English as a Second Language (ESL), English Language Learners (ELL), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in preK-12 or postsecondary.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the CODiE Awards program,” said Peter Eddison, president the CEO, AutoSkill International Inc. “The Academy of READING is gaining significant mindshare in the K-12 market because this research-based product has proven to be effective in generating permanent gains in a way that is engaging for the student, helpful for the teacher, and cost effective for the district administrator.”
The Academy of READING builds the component skills of fluency in five core areas defined by the National Reading Panel. In its instructional design, the product incorporates Automaticity to achieve measurable and permanent results. It recognizes a student's individual strengths and weaknesses, and uses diagnostic tools to ensure that students advance according to individual skill and abilities.
Browser-based, the product offers a unique task-analytic methodology that breaks skills down into manageable components, provides multiple opportunities for students to master concepts through a tutorial-practice-train sequence, and uses behavioral motivation techniques to move struggling students along a development continuum. Educators can effectively provide data-driven instruction through features such as integrated tools, graphical reports, and web-based access from anywhere on the network.
The 2006 CODiE Awards will be announced at a gala ceremony on May 16, 2006 in San Francisco, CA. To learn more about the Awards program, visit http://www.siia.net/codies/2006/
